"Netralaya" means "eye hospital" and Sankara Netralaya is one of the top-most eye hospitals in the country.

The hospital was formed in 1976 and accepts patients from across the globe. Sankara Nethralaya understands that the future belongs to the young and it is important to train them well. Keeping this in mind, they have many summer training programs and they run an elite School of Optometry and offer internships.

The aim of the internship is to help support other Colleges of Optometry, such as Kolkata, and their final year students.

The internship also ensures the externs undergo the skills training required in general OPD.
